I'm completely slack lately and only have one FO to share.
I missed my friend's little girl's birthday party last Saturday, but finally gave her this gift so I can share it here.

Bownanza
Lame title for this post, I know.
Last night, I had a MNO (read: Mom's Night Out) at my friend Jackie's house. I was supposed to be teaching the moms how to make bows.
I will be the first to admit that I am not a very good teacher. I'm a do-er. I figure out what I want to make and then I find a way to work it out. However, I loaded up my bow-goodies and headed up to her house, laptop in hand, to try and pass along my limited knowledge to others.
Two and a half hours later, I, the leader, only had one completed bow. And it was a wonky one at that!

I also didn't remember until I was packing up my goodies that I needed to take some pics to share with you all. So this one was taken just now via my iPhone. (Insert adoring sigh in the direction of iPhone here).
Anyway, there are a few great sites that I like to use to make my bows. Huge disclaimer here: I HATE making bows. I'm a painful perfectionist when it comes to my craftiness, and I'm impossibly dissatisfied with every bow that has ever been born of my hands.
Bow making help:
Way To Bow - this site walks you through the patterns needed to make those layered multi colored bows that are becoming all the rage
Girly Things Bows - The first and last bow tutorial site you will ever need. This site has everything from boutique bows to tuxedo bows to cupcake bows to bow holders... I could go on and on. You just need to check it out for yourself.
Korker Tutorial - Want to make Korkers? This is a great site to learn how to DIY from beginning to end!
Infant Clippie - Posh N Pretty has lots of great tutes for bows. I like the simplicity of her Infant Clippie tutorial. The only addition that I would suggest is to add some drawer liner to help keep it in fine baby hair.
So maybe this seems like a lot of work when you could just buy a bow, right? Well, There's a strange satisfaction when you are able to say, "Oh, I made it" when someone asks where you got the loopy colorful clip you have affixed on your child's head. However, if it seems like this is just way too much of an undertaking for you, here are a few of my favorite bow sellers. They are all on Etsy. I LOVE ETSY.
My Fave Bow Sellers:
All The Frills Boutique - The mother of all layered bows!!! Beautiful, big, colorful, ribbon goodness for your little bowhead!
Lolly's Fabulous Bows - WAHM with two adorable girls who makes big, fabulous Korkers, custom orders.
The Princess and Me - Ginormous, beautiful boutique bows.
FunnyKindaGirl - Super unique bows. Very cute!!
If you have a tip to share, let me know and I'll post it here!!

Color Me Crazy
What do you get when you combine nine napless kids under the age of five with three tired moms and a bunch of white shirts and fabric dye?
Sheer, unadulterated insanity!!!
Things started well... the girls were prepped and ready to go:

And I obviously had the best intentions of getting some pictures of everything...
But about three minutes after this picture was taken, all hell broke loose.
The three babies all started screaming. The toddlers were over tired and just plain done. And the girls were, well, typical independent girls.
I think that my friends and I personified the phrase "It takes a village..." yesterday.
I swept in and dealt with the babies and as many of the toddlers as I could manage while my creative and patient counterparts dipped and dyed the white banded bundles.
The volume in the house was deafening. And I'm pretty sure that I, at least, looked haggard and somewhat hilarious with my child nursing, a baby in the crook of my knee, and a third one on my other arm. I was able to captivate the attention of two of my three toddler charges by having them tell me about the toys in the backpack. My own toddler, however, had to be sent on a wild goose chase looking for airplanes. Don't ask... it is the ONLY thing that will keep his attention or deter him from a total meltdown when he isn't getting his way.
And when all the shirts had been dyed and the diapers had been changed, the power went out.
I swear, you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.
Exit The Mama.
And as if we hadn't had enough, the nine month old decided that she wanted to choke on a strand of her sister's hair within minutes of pulling out of my friend's neighborhood. It was unpleasant to say the least.
Within ten minutes of walking through the door to our house, I had all three stinky kids bathed. Dinner consisting of Steamfresh broccoli and one cent Publix hot dogs was quickly served.
Bedtime came early last night.
I do have to say that the one shirt I managed to get done before all hell broke loose turned out surprisingly well.

We made it home with three other shirts, but sadly my son's is nowhere to be found.
Here are the other ones that my friend Jackie did for me while I juggled the wild ones:

I'm going to add my touch to them with some fun Urban Threads embroideries.
Upon reflection, the tie dying itself was fun. However, next time I think that I will do it minus the children and plus a bottle of wine.
Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama

This is her "style girl" pose. I have no idea what that means, but I have a feeling I'm in serious trouble.

Teach Me To Knit!
I want to learn how to knit.
I really don't need another hobby to consume my time, but there's just something about knitting needles and beautiful yarn that inexplicably draws me in. I get color-drunk just looking at all of the beautiful hues and textures.
While on vacation, I visited one of my favorite shops, The Stitchery, to see if they had any new needlepoint patterns that I could indulge in. I wound up staying in there for an hour and a half, fondling cashmere and silk and wool to my hearts content. I left with a sense of frustration and motivation: screw the needlepoint - I have that mastered; I need to learn how to knit.
Crochet just won't suffice. I HAVE to knit. I need to have a beautiful pair of rosewood needles resting in a ball of luxurious yarn ready to be turned into a delicious scarf, shawl, or blanket. I want to understand what it means to knit, purl, cast on, and decrease. I want to speak the language of the art and be able to turn it into beautiful creations.
It is entirely possible that I'm a 90 year old woman trapped in a 31 year old's body.

Crafty Goodness
I love it when my creativity starts going again!

Just a tease... there is much, much more coming!
The onesies are embroidered Minkee and are double stitched to the shirt. The fobs are two-sided and read "Occupational Therapy". You don't even want to know how many times I checked my spelling on those! I wish my embroidery software had spell check...
I will also be making mini key fobs that will be gifts for donations to my Breast Cancer 3 Day! Stay tuned to my 3 Day Blog (you can find the link over in the right sidebar) for more information!

Starving for Inspiration
I'm in a drought of sorts. My creative energy has all but dried up and I feel like the pitiful plant sitting on the corner of my bathtub begging for water... or in my case, inspiration.
I have dozens of patterns and tutorials up in my studio calling my name. I have yummy fabrics begging to be made into beautiful things. Yet here I sit, lacking the creative drive to do anything beyond admire the beautiful colors that stare back at me from my textile shelves.
It's almost as if I'm too scattered. I have so many things in the lineup that I don't even know where to begin.
I have crafting ADD.
As I sit here rambling on about my lack of focus, I'm beginning to realize that part of my struggle can be attributed to my lack of organization. I don't even know where to begin because I always feel like I should be doing something else... But from what I'm reading on other "mom blogs", this is a pretty typical thought for a lot of women who stay home with their children.
Or, perhaps it's because I'm constantly chasing around my spirited two year old who, at this very moment, is terrorizing our dogs and making a mess of our den.
And with that, the disorganization and lack of inspiration will be put on the back shelf in lieu of fishing Mickey Mouse of of the dog's water bowl - for the third time in ten minutes.

Where In The World Is The Mama???
I'm here!
Things have been incredibly hectic over the last two weeks. And because I'm not already running around like a madwoman, I'm adding additional responsibility to my plate!
First things first, I have decided to design and market my own line of designer/boutique t-shirts. I have a propensity for yummy fabrics. The problem is, I can't justify the possibility of ruining an $8 yard of colorful goodness on something that may very well wind up unwearable or unusable. I also love the feel of natural fibers and high-quality knits. I've decided to celebrate my love of both by uniting them in marriage. I have sketched out the designs, purchased my t-shirt samples, and am in the process of determining which of my favorite beauties from my fabric stash will become part of my first Spring/Summer collection.
Honestly, I had no idea it would be as much fun as it is. Now, I'm just hoping people will buy them!
Next, my precious little N had surgery on Thursday. Thankfully it was minor and went well. He was such a trooper!
Finally, I am writing a book. Okay, not exactly, but I am going to publish a cookbook. I am part of a wonderful online community of women all over the world. Most of us have been friends for over two years. In a moment of light (or insanity!) I have decided to compile all of the recipes that we have posted over the years into a cookbook. We will have the proceeds go to a charitable cause still to be determined. I am very, very excited about this as I hope it gives me an opportunity to learn a little bit about the world of publishing.
Whew! Are you as tired as I am??
I promise to keep up with my posts much better going forward. Thanks to my two loyal readers for sticking with me so far!
