Wordless Wednesday

Today was a really, really weird day.

I'm battling some odd stomach bug (No, I am definitely not pregnant so get that out of your head right. this. very. minute).

An intended trip into Kroger for milk resulted in a 30 minute vomit inducing meltdown from my three year old... and no, the vomit was a result of my aforementioned stomach bug, but rather the result of a screaming fit I can only relate to the short scenes I've ever seen of The Exorcist.  Needless to say, I'm on the hunt for a bottle of Holy Water just in case round two hits in the next 48 to 72 hours before The Husband gets home.  Although I did meet a really nice woman there who seems to be a lot like me - although I friended her on FB not knowing if she really was the same person, so I may have someone out there thinking I'm some psycho crazy woman who befriends random people after chance encounters in parking lots.

My dogs keep barking for no known reason and looking at me expecting ME to do a trick.

The kids got a bath BEFORE dinner for a change.

And, to top it all off, I changed the sheets on my bed.  Although in all fairness, this wouldn't have happened unless my oldest hadn't decided to wake me up this morning by going "Oops mama... I think I peed your bed."

Now, I realize that most of this may not sound too strange, but really, here's the weird part:

We managed to have an organized and calm nature walk and art project this afternoon.

I know!  It's shocking, isn't it?!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to relish in the loveliness of this picture and try to drown out the screaming coming from behind me as dogs and children fight over the toys.

Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama

At least I'm relatively consistent in getting my Wordless Wednesday picture up, right?

This is our newest addition... hand built from the bottom up by The Husband and yours truly!  We ordered the "kit" which contained hardware and swings online and got the lumber from our friends at The Home Depot.  The slide was literally a gift from above - one man's trash is another man's treasure!  It is constructed from 4x4's and 4x6's and is crazy sturdy.  We could not be happier!!!

The kids LOVE it!  The Swing Beast (as I lovingly dubbed him after 10+ hours of construction)  has already provided my crew with hours of entertainment.

Where Has The Mama Gone???

I haven't abandoned Little Bitty Steps.

I've been busy.  Very, very, VERY busy.

In honor of Wordless Wednesday, I present to you a photo summary of where I have been and why I have been MIA.

This is what happens when you are writing advocacy emails and forget that you have put cinnamon toast in the oven.  On High.  For nearly 30 minutes.

I'm lucky the kitchen did not catch on fire.

And jealousy of my time away from the house doing Advocacy work has reared it's ugly head.  Mini-Me has decided that she "needs help in school like the kids mommy helps" so we had a little bout of pinching and spitting on friends.  This is the portion of punishment that I can share in the blogsphere.  The jealousy problems have since ceased... for the time being (after all, she is a miniature version of me).

Have I mentioned the Thrilling Threes?  'Nuff said.

Even with all of that, there has been some time for knitting.  Mini-Me is wearing the Mara (Ravelry Link) I just finished out of Ruca Multy (Ravelry Link).  It is an organic yarn made from sugar cane!

The Husband and I were in Athens for my brother's graduation.  He is UGA's Student of the Year, hence the spiffy red ribboned medal around his neck.

And my amazing husband took us on a surprise trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a visit to the Biltmore Estate.  Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

Please excuse the cheesy grin on my face.  I was wearing two kids at once and couldn't really get enough oxygen to my brain (and I had just finished a delicious glass of wine).

And last but not least, this is the last week of school for my kiddos, so we have spent the better part of this week juggling class parties and end of the year performances.

My kid is the one in the plaid shirt, just right of center.

And my girl is wearing the pink shorts.

We are one very busy but very, very happy family!

Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama

We got this in the mail today.  It both warmed and broke my heart all at the same time.

Inside was a handwritten note from the doctor who saw us the night we took Scruffy to the emergency vet.

This is Chewie. Chewie likes his hoodie sweater. He also has an identity crisis: he thinks he's a cat.

Yes, Chewie is sitting on top of a table.

Wordless Wednesday Explained

You can find this week's Wordless Wednesday post over here. I'll get to why it's in a different place this week in just a moment.

I went with my friend, Matt, to play Drag Queen Bingo tonight. Well, it's not technically called DQB, but that's neither here nor there.

My monthly bingo game is actually a benefit to support P.A.L.S. Atlanta. You can find information about the organization HERE. It really is a lot of fun. This is my second time going. Next month's theme is Alabama Prom. Let me just tell you... I cannot WAIT for May 13th!!! I justify my convoluted Mom's Night Off by convincing myself that I'll eventually win the $500 jackpot. Don't laugh. It could happen.

I must admit that I love DQB. For some reason, putting ink blobs on a piece of paper as random numbers and letters are called is immensely satisfying. I've even been tempted to find a group of blue-haired ladies at the American Legion to play with so that I can get my fix more frequently. Somehow, however, I doubt it would be quite the same as playing alongside my friends Matt and John while Bubba and Alexandria exchange cheek-flushing quips that only those with a truly sick sense of humor can appreciate. I think it would ultimately be an anti-climatic waste of a child-free evening. I haven't completely put the thought out of my mind though.

And now to the explanation portion of tonight's post... (because I'm sure you've all been on the edge of your seats)

I have a horribly irrational fear of being struck down by lighting. No. I really, really do. And for some reason, I just cannot bring myself to post pictures of my father in his Clerics (have I mentioned that he's an ordained Deacon? Maybe not. That deserves a whole post for another day ;-) ) only three posts down from two of the most irreverent - albeit hilarious - camp drag queens I've ever seen. You can blame my Catholic School upbringing or the fact that I harbor a misguided fantasy that the Archbishop secretly reads (and laughs out loud at) my blog, but whatever the reason, when my initial photo upload wound up in the photo gallery instead of on the main page, I took it as a sign.

And just so we're clear... I have nothing against drag queens, or bingo, or drag queens playing bingo.

Besides, I clearly had a lot to say tonight. Why should I waste perfectly good linguistic creativity on a photo-post?!?!

The Mama

I've been feeling kind of nostalgic for the last 24 hours, so I decided this would be my WW post. This year we'll be celebrating our 7th year of marriage.

I promise, I will stop sharing my obsession with the coupon game soon. But this... oh, this is just too good to keep to myself.

Spent: $130.

Saved: ...

I only paid full price for two items: 1) Honey 2) Molasses, both of which are for making bread at home using my $12 machine from Goodwill.

A nasty virus has hit our house. My precious little I, who never gets sick, has been running a fever and coughing since Monday. It breaks my heart.
