From the Mouths of Babes

Every once in a while, one of my children does something that completely stops me dead in my tracks.  Yesterday, this honor went to Mini-Me.

While I rushed to finish the painting, Mini-Me sat at the kitchen table diligently working on writing her name on the leftover Disney Princess (of course!) Valentines cards that were not given out at her preschool party.  Every so often, she came over and asked if she was doing a good job.

Truth be told, I was VERY surprised that she was doing such an amazing job writing her name.  Only two months ago, she couldn't even spell it, let alone write it.  I of course ooh'd and aah'd and told her how proud of her I was and that she was doing an amazing job.

I asked her who she was giving the Valentines cards to.

She sat for a minute, took a deep breath, and looked me straight in the eye.  The she told me that she was giving them to the people in Haiti who had the "earfcake" because they were lonely and scared and probably wouldn't get any Valentines.  She said she didn't want them to be sad.

I could have gobbled her up right then and there.

For as sassy and moody as she can be, Mini-Me has absolutely the biggest heart of any young child I have ever known.  I'm not just saying that because she's mine either.  Every night she prays for people who are hungry - all on her own - no prompting - she says what she's thankful for and then asks God to watch over the people who are hungry and cold.  She's done this without fail for over a year and started it entirely on her own.  She talks about giving clothes she has outgrown to kids who don't have clothes.  Walking through Target, she suggests toys that she would like to get to give to other children who don't have toys.

She's a very special little girl.  And she's a daily reminder to me that we need to be selfless and loving to everyone, all the time, especially those who are so much less fortunate than we are.
