Summer has come in with a bang... and I am not talking about the weather!
For some strange reason, I (mistakenly) believed that summer would bring a slow-down in my advocacy work, a chance to catch up on knitting and blogging, an opportunity to hang out with friends, and an overall increase in that elusive thing known as "time."
HA!
Mini-me's last day of school was Friday.
Saturday we ran around like crazy people finishing errands and doing about a million other things that I cannot even recall right this minute.
Sunday, we welcomed a sweet midwestern houseguest who is visiting while she looks for a place to live next year as she starts her PhD program. And we had a church picnic. And I went to knitting. And I started reviewing IEP's for the upcoming week. (And just in case you aren't sure what an IEP is, you can check out my other blog here).
Monday - I think that's where we are today - started with great gusto... no pun intended! With so many things on the calendar for this week and so much swirling through my mind, I hit the streets (sidewalks - shady, safe, sometimes hilly, tree-lined sidewalks) at 7:00 this morning and did a 6 mile run. Wait, what??? Yes... I RAN SIX WHOLE MILES. It took me about an hour which I don't think is bad considering that three months ago, I couldn't run one mile without wanting to die. Of course, I don't have much of a basis of comparison when it comes to time. I'm just proud that I didn't pee in my pants. Or throw up. Or pass out. Or, well, die.
And to be perfectly honest, I do think that it helped my energy level, although my knees are not necessarily in agreement that it was the brightest thing to do this morning. Ahhh, yet another unwelcome reminder that my birthday is just around the corner.
Coming up this week, I have numerous letters and emails to send, two IEP's to attend, a girl's night out, complaints to file, and no less than 500 additional things to take care of.
But here's the thing... I secretly love it.
I love being busy. I like downtime, sure, but I also love having things to do. I thrive on chaos - why else would anyone in their right mind have three kids in three years?! And I'm really, really passionate about what I'm doing - both the being a mom part and the being an advocate part. After all, kids are our future, and the opportunities we afford them today will help make tomorrow a little bit better for everyone. But the Kumbaya moment aside, I do enjoy having lots of things on the docket especially when they involve a little more than toilet scrubbing and laundry washing (not folding... I never, ever fold!).
So, I'm pretty sure that my blogging will suffer one of two fates this week. Behind door #1, we have the oversharing, pleasantly stressed and somewhat Hyper Mama keeping you abreast of everything that is happening in my crazy little corner of the world. Behind door #2, we have the Hermit Mama who may or may not even show up for Wordless Wednesday. Only time will tell.
Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama
