My parents and I have recently started a new tradition. Well, it's a tradition in my mind anyway!
I have been going to their house on Sunday nights with my youngest to enjoy my dad's homemade pizza and some adult conversation.
I love this time with my parents. The first weekend, it was purely accidental that I ended up there on Pizza night. The second weekend, I just needed a break from my house and was lucky enough to be offered some yummy dinner when I arrived. Last night, I planned ahead and had looked forward to the evening all week long.
It's not just my dad's pizza that I love... although it truly is the BEST pizza in the world. I love how funny my mom is when she relaxes and is candid with us. I love watching my parents faces light up when they get to spend one on one time with my youngest child - something that's virtually impossible when all three kids are around! I love being able to have some time that's just reserved for me and my parents. I'm 30 years old, but I still relish in their undivided attention.
Seeing my parents out of "parent mode" has made me view them in a new light. When it's just us, the dynamics are much more relaxed. I love seeing them as "empty nesters". I'm very, very blessed that my parents are still alive, are still healthy, and are close by. Sometimes they make me crazy - I mean really, what parent doesn't? But at the end of the day, I'm so incredibly thankful that God gave them to me and that they play such an important role in my life.
Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama
