Right In Front of You

I need to thank a friend. I constantly struggle with seeking to find the next great achievement in my life. I often get too busy and forget that my greatest achievements are right in front of me. I joke and say that I am planning my next baby before I'm even out of the delivery room, but to be honest, there is a kernel of truth in that statement. I like to have things to look forward to. Sure, you could psychoanalyze me and say that there are any number of reasons for that. And yes, I probably do need to spend some time in a therapist's office. But the reality is that looking forward is part of who I am, what I've always been, and who I probably will continue to be.

That being said, I need a good swift kick in the derriere every once in a while to make me stop and live in the moment. This poem did just that.

I hope my children will look back on today
And see a mother who had time to play.

There will be years for cleaning and cooking
But children grow up while we're not looking.

Dusting and scrubbing can wait 'till tomorrow
For babies grow fast we learn to our sorrow.

So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

So to my friend, thank you for your honesty and for helping me to see that the next great thing is right in front of me already.

Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama
