National Turn Off TV Week Day One: Fail. My kids are watching Madagascar 2 thanks to Redbox Free Movie Monday. Mommy needs a time-out.
I have nothing at all against National Turn Off TV Week. I think it's a fantastic idea... in theory. In reality, it's an impossibility when you are a SAHM (translate: Stay At Home Mom) to three very energetic children under the age of four. Maybe I should clarify. It's an impossibility for THIS SAHM. I'm just not cut out to cut off the TV... especially when a new episode of Grey's Anatomy is airing this week. (I'll support television in my house, but hypocracy will not be tolerated.)
TV is a luxury, a reward, a much needed babysitter-in-a-box so that mommy can go to the bathroom without six little eyes staring at me and commenting on every formerly private detail of my time in the restroom. It's a necessity sometimes. That's a fact. That's the reality around our house.
I honestly considered doing the whole shut off the tube thing. Then, my sanity returned. And within minutes, my phone received a text message with the RedBox Free Movie Monday code. Call it what you will - I took it as a sign from God.
As a result, my children are peacefully watching Madagascar II and shaking their little hips to "I Like To Move It". They are laughing. They are happy.
Mommy is getting a much needed time-out.
Oh, and I gave them brownies for their snack today. You may now rescind me as your nominee for Mother of the Year.
Love, hugs, and blessings,
The Mama
